Welcome to DA-Deserts

Hi all!

I am Asya, the founder of DA-Deserts. David, who is so kind to help me with this group has already introduced himself and his connection to deserts, and I'd like to do the same.

I spent most of my childhood living next door to the Negev Desert in Israel, and fell in love with it ever since. Even after I moved to Canada I have been obsessed with deserts. When I was in high-school my first oil painting was of a horse running through the desert with sand dunes in the background. Later, I worked on a set of surreal paintings... they were ALL set in a desert landscape. That same year, I visited the Grand Canyon. It was a nostalgic moment; the landscape was like a giant version of the little desert in Israel that I loved so much.  On my first trip to Israel (9 years since I moved from there) I have experienced the most incredible feeling, comparable only to how Neil Armstrong must have felt when making his first step on the surface of the moon. When I stepped off of the bus on to the soil of the Negev desert, I felt so at home, I felt like THIS is where I belong. I returned to Canada promising myself to come visit this place again. I did 2 years later. Again, I got to enjoy driving on the desert roads, trekking through the desert both by foot and on camels, and climbing mountains... just like I did 11 years ago when I lived there.

Maybe not all people feel so passionate about deserts, but I'm sure many of you admired, at least once, the beauty of a desert. If you have, please join. You can add any works you have that relate to the theme of deserts and admire the other works that have been added to the group gallery.
